READIN

Jeremy's journal

Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested: that is, some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention.

— Sir Francis Bacon

Aquí que tengas tinta y secante
pluma negra de cuervo ya largo tiempo
muerto a tu naciemiento
pido
pido que me escribas
a mí
me dice
tus relatos complicados y lejos
de aquí
tus pretextos más
bien hechos
que tendría a leer
algo divertido
algo
últimamente
sin sentido.

Here you go now, ink and blotter
a quill of black -- the raven was long dead
when you were born
I'm asking
I'm asking you to write
for me
tell me
your twisted stories far
from here and now
your best
excuses
that I might have some reading
something fun
something
at last
without meaning.

hay trampa
para el traductor
que empiece él a pensar
o mejor a sentir
que las palabras fuesen suyas
propias

a trap lies
for the translator
he may begin to think
or better to feel
that the words should be
his own.

Es media once y nos andamos todavía preparando, y no puedo crear que cogaremos al tren. El coche espera ya diez minutos taximetro corriendo.

It's half past ten and we're still running around getting ready. I can't believe we're going to make the train. The cabbie's been waiting ten minutes now, his meter's running.
