I have had good-but-mixed luck with Nabokov in the past. Of his many works, I have read: Lolita, many times, with great enjoyment; Pale Fire, recommended to me by my friend Maurice, which I quite liked though perhaps not as much as he thought I would like it; Ada (or Ardor) delighted me with its word-play but left me, at the end of the book, unsatisfied (off-topic: my experience of Ada was almost exactly similar to my experience of David Foster Wallace's Infinite Jest, though the two books have little in common); Speak, Memory I tried without success to get into; but it could well be argued I did not try hard enough.
