This week (10/10/1999) in the NY Times book review, is an essay by Wendy Steiner, professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania, called "Look Who's Modern Now", about the current position and direction of fiction in America. Here is a link for it which will, however, only work this week. In the future, you can find it by going to the Times archive page and looking for things like "Wendy Steiner", "contemporary American fiction", "Cambridge History of American Literature". To access the archive you need to be a registered user; this is free. To download the article you have to pay, I think $3.00. I think the essay is worth the fee. |
