This desk is my first foray into recycled furniture. I found a child's table on the street and the bright colors of the paint caught my eye; so I lugged it upstairs only to find that it was too long for the space where we wanted to use it. Unperturbed, I set about trying to figure out how to shorten it -- what I ended up doing was, I cut a section out of the middle of the table and used metal plates to join the two ends back together. The joint is not at all even, but we put paint on pretty thick to hide that. We had a lot of fun painting the table, stenciling on letters and numbers and shapes. The paint job is covered with J & W etc. water-based polyurethane. Here's a picture: |
