Some new pictures are up at the READIN Family Album -- a mix of stuff from the last few weeks including Ellen and Sylvia's trip to Cambridge, our outing to "Playing the Building", and an epic battle between Lola and Pixie. Here is a great shot of Ellen and Sylvia (who is herself the photographer):

Another batch of photos is uploaded to our family album! This set includes among other things, documentation of the murals workshop which Ellen and some other local parents taught this term. The final project was painting a mural in the ground floor hallway of the South Orange Public Library. Also featured, the photo I would like to have on my driver's license, taken by Sylvia:
I think it has a certain quality reminiscent of the Simpsons. And I want to be a cartoon, I do!

Thanks, Shelley! Shelley came along to Sylvia's dance recital last month (Sylvia is a student at Lydia Johnson Dance) and took a lot of pictures, which she gave to Ellen today -- I've uploaded them to our family album. Sylvia's dance was with two other girls (all of them wore baseball caps for the dance) -- the three of them choreographed the moves together.

And bang! summer is here. Today is the first hot day of the year -- really late this year. (And not even that hot, really -- like in the 80s or low 90s. But it feels really hot after the unseasonal chill we have been experiencing here in northern NJ.) We came home from the Memorial Day parade (in which Sylvia marched with her Brownie troop, troop 61) to find a baby raccoon staring at us from our neighbor's tree. So cute!
...Wow, and thunderstorms likely tomorrow! This is shaping up to be a dramatic season. Update: here's a picture of Troop 61 marching in the parade:

Our irises are blossoming this year! Last year the plants grew but produced no flowers. The bulbsrhizomes are from The Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Montclair, where you can get a mixed grab bag during bloom season for cheap.

Ellen and Sylvia are back home from their D.C. vacation -- they had a good trip and took plenty of pictures. Sylvia was play-acting this afternoon and I found this snippet pretty amusing: I'm an eagle!... I'm soaring... across the ground... While she was away, Sylvia finished Further Adventures of the Great Brain, and got about halfway through Prince Caspian. (Odd combination, a little -- she has been really wrapped up in the Great Brain books lately, and she wanted to reread Caspian before the film comes out.) I'm so proud!

Back from lovely Water Island. More pictures here -- I especially like some of the shots we got of plants on the island, which was unusually lush because there's been a lot of rain this winter, and cool pictures of my and Sylvia's visit to the Coral World aquarium. We fed lorikeets!
I finished Seeing and Never Let Me Go, hope to post more about both books later this week.
