Jeremy's journal

Listen, this process called poetry is an exercise in imagining memory, and then having that memory snare and cherish imagination.

🦋 Film series

Ellen has organized a film series at the local library, movies about adoption. The series kicks off on Sunday afternoon, with Barbara Lee's documentary Adopted; Ellen has an interview with Lee at Patch.com.

And another piece by Ellen, in The Motherhood: What this movie has to offer to people who are not in adoptive families.

It was a good turn-out - about 25 people. The first person that spoke after the film was an adult adoptee who had adopted two children, now in their forties. She felt a lot of pain in seeing the film - it brought up a lot of memories of feeling different than her family. Others commented about their young children's processing of their grief of losing their 'first families.' Then, we watched a short film on "Raising Adopted Children," which also led to good, deep discussion. In three weeks, we'll be showing two more films.

Great -- I'll post the schedule closer to the date they show.
