Jeremy's journal

Somehow, Cleveland has survived, with her gray banner unfurled -- the banner of Archangelsk and Detroit, of Kharkov and Liverpool -- the banner of men and women who would settle the most ignominious parts of the earth, and there, with the hubris born neither of faith nor ideology but biology and longing, bring into the world their whimpering replacements.

🦋 Jagged

There was a jagged man, and he walked a jagged mile.
He found a jagged sixpence behind a jagged stile.
He bought a jagged cat that caught a jagged mouse.
They all lived together in a little jagged house.

Jagged Sixpence Blues

Walking by the side of the jagged highway
walking down the road a jagged mile
rest my load by the jagged crossroads
lay my burden down a jagged while.

Scratching out a tune on my jagged cello
swimming in an ocean of jagged blue
let the words ring out to a jagged anthem
promising to love only jagged you.

ch.
Jagged, bristly, never smooth
talk me off the ledge.
Jagged, angry, always uncouth
jagged, off the edge.

Jack and Jill took a jagged hike
they ran and ran up the jagged hill
ran to the well for some jagged water
but Jack tripped up and took a jagged spill.

Tell me now -- I'll pay you a jagged nickel
to hear about Lot and his jagged wife
pillar of clay, oh, a jagged column
of salty remorse, oh, bitter strife.

ch.

Half a Jagged Shilling is a Jagged Sixpence blues
                                      The Modesto Kid

      D G A
There was a jagged man, who walked a jagged mile.
   D A
He found a jagged sixpence, behind a jagged stile.
   D G A
He bought a jagged cat, to catch a jagged rat,
       D A D
and he made his way back to his jagged little shack.

D G
Walk along the side of the jagged highway
                        A
walking down the road a jagged mile
G A
rest my load at the jagged crossroads
C A D
set my jagged burden down a while.

Scratching out a tune on my jagged cello
drowning in an ocean of jagged blue
let the words ring out to a jagged anthem
swear to love nobody but jagged you.

   G A
   Jagged, broken, never smooth
   G A
   talk me off the ledge.
   G A
   Quick to anger, always uncouth
   G D
   drag it off the edge.

Listen now I'll tell you a jagged story
all about a jagged fish that got away
all about a certain longing for jagged glory,
at the jagged close of the day.

    ch.

Jack and Jill were jagged lovers
They went for a walk up the jagged hill
Well Jack fell down and broke his jagged crown,
Or maybe those two would be up there still

Jack gave Jill a jagged nickel
Jack gave Jill a jagged kiss
Jill gave Jack a jagged tickle
And showed him how to walk like this

aw, drag it off the goddamn jagged edge!
