READIN

Jeremy's journal

Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested: that is, some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention.

— Sir Francis Bacon

🦋 viola d'ottone: second thoughts about the neck

I think I need to laminate the brass viola's neck out of two pieces, so the grain in the upper neck and pegbox/scroll can be straight. I do not think it will be strong enough going at an angle across the grain as it is currently laid out [cf]. I have a pretty clear mental picture of what the joint should look like.

some progress... The next step(s) is going to be to cut a mortise in the upper section of the neck and fit it together with the lower section, and get the length of it right; then I will get a fingerboard and rough fit it, and finalize the angle of the neck, which will entail laying out and making a neck block.
