READIN

Jeremy's journal

Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested: that is, some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention.

— Sir Francis Bacon

🦋 Persian epic

They chose for the girl the name of Beauty
The chosen son was named Love unhappy

As time went on, some called Beauty Leyla
Some called her Shirin, and others Azra

Then some gave the name of Majnun to Love
Some called him Vamik, and others Ferhad

--Love and Beauty (305-7)

Is the intended reading that all of these epics are retellings of the same story?
